At December 1st-3rd's 2017 Season Two Invitational, thousands of Magic: The Gathering fans will be at Roanoke, Virginia’s Berglund Special Events Center competing in the Invitational, Open, and Classics; participating in countless side events; buying/selling/trading with our many vendors; meeting many of the game's most popular card artists; making new friends; and enjoying the game of Magic: The Gathering in whatever way most appeals to them.

If you've never attended a Magic: The Gathering event the size of an Invitational Weekend before, you're definitely in for a treat, but may understandably have a few questions.

SCG Tour Event FAQ

How do I register for the Invitational?

Qualified players wishing to compete in the Invitational can check-in with a photo ID at the on-site Customer Service station from 10:00am-11:50am on Friday, December 1. There is no online registration.

What are the maximum seating capacities for the Invitational, Open, and Classics?

The Invitational and Sunday’s Modern and Standard Classics have no maximum seating capacity. Saturday’s Modern Open has a maximum seating capacity of 1,200 players.

Where can I find a decklist form?

The Season Two Invitational, Saturday's Modern Open, and both Sunday Classics all require a decklist, and we will have plenty of forms available on-site. If you wish to print your own ahead of time, you can do so here. Please note that you will also need to submit a publicity waiver in order to participate in any of these events.

How do I collect the exclusive playmat(s) I'm supposed to receive as part of my registration package?

Each Open and Classic participant will receive a voucher redeemable for that event’s exclusive playmat during the event’s Player Meeting. Voucher may be redeemed at the Customer Service station anytime the event hall is open before 8pm on Sunday. Please note that we cannot redeem vouchers once the event has ended.

How will I receive any prize money won at the Invitational and/or Saturday’s Modern Open? will mail each eligible players prize check to the address that player provides on their W-9 tax forms. W-9 tax forms will be distributed to eligible players on-site, and collected once the required information has been provided.

Registration & Rewards FAQ

I filled out my name, DCI number, etc. incorrectly when I registered. What should I do?

No worries. Simply email us at with the corrections and we'll take care of it for you. If you received a confirmation email after registering, please forward that to us as well as it will make it easier for us to assist you.

If I want to attend the Invitational Weekend, but am not qualified to participate in the Invitational, do I still need to purchase a registration package?

There is no charge to enter the hall, so come hang out with us! However, you only need to purchase a registration package if you wish to enter the specific event(s) (Saturday’s Modern Open, Sunday’s Modern or Standard Classic, etc.) and receive the advertised benefit(s) that come with doing so.

I've already registered, but can no longer attend the event. What do I do?

We're sorry to hear that you won't be joining us. Please email to request a refund.

Can I purchase the Registration Reward items separately?

Registration Reward items can only be obtained as advertised here.

If I purchase a 2-Day or 3-Day Infinite Challenge registration package, but am unable to attend for the full number of days, will I still receive the Registration Reward items included with that package?

Yes. All players who purchase a 2-Day or 3-Day Infinite Challenge registration package will receive the Registration Reward items included with that package regardless of how many days that player is actually able to attend, However, all Registration Reward items must be picked up on-site.

What happens if I register, then end up not being able to attend? Can I have my Registration Reward items shipped to me?

Registration Reward items can only be obtained via the packages appearing here, and you must be present to receive them. If you've registered for/purchased one (or more) of those packages, and later find that you're unable to attend the Invitational Weekend, please contact us to request a refund.

Will you be accepting credit cards on-site for event entries, registration packages, etc?

Yes, and for purchases made at the sales booth, as well.

Event Schedule FAQ

If I drop from a Challenge side event, will I still receive Prize Wall tickets based on whatever my current record was at the time?

Yes. All Challenge side event participants receive prizes based on their match point total, regardless of whether or not they complete all four (4) rounds of the event.

  • 12 points: 360 Prize Wall tickets
  • 10 points: 240 Prize Wall tickets
  • 9 points: 120 Prize Wall tickets
  • 8 points: 80 Prize Wall tickets
  • 7 points: 80 Prize Wall tickets
  • 6 points: 40 Prize Wall tickets

However, please note that prizes for Challenge side events cannot be claimed until approximately five (5) minutes after the start of that event's fourth round.

Can SCG offer a [insert format here] side event at the Invitational Weekend?

Invitational Weekend attendees are welcome to gather with friends to organize a Magic: The Gathering event featuring any format, as long as they:

  1. Do not require anything in exchange for entry into the event
  2. Do not offer or award any sort of prize
  3. Do so in a way that does not disrupt any aspect of the Invitational Weekend.

If you can find eight players who wish to play in an event featuring a format not supported by the Magic: The Gathering Tournament Rules, we will be happy to offer such as a casual, 8-player On-Demand Event. Please note that the use of playtest cards is still not permitted in such events.

Exhibitor FAQ

What are the rules for trading while at Invitational Weekend?

While trading with your fellow fans is both allowed and encouraged, please note that the following things are not permitted:

  • Buying/selling cards for cash with anyone except for the event's authorized vendors.
  • Soliciting to buy and/or sell with anyone except for the event's authorized vendors.
  • Advertising without receiving permission from's on-site Event Manager.
  • Offering to "alter" cards in exchange for some form of compensation.
  • Utilizing an excessive amount of space when trading.
  • Using suitcases, handcarts, luggage carts, etc. for the purpose of transporting excessive amounts of trade stock.
  • Use of playmats that display prices (more commonly known as "buy mats"), electronic card scanners, and/or price tags/stickers.
  • Using's or the event's official hashtags in order to facilitate breaking any of the rules listed above.

Please note that failure to obey these rules may result in all involved parties being both removed from the event without refund and banned from attending future events.

What do I need to do to become an authorized exhibitor at this event?
